A privately funded effort to build a new astro turf soccer field for Hinsdale Central High School.
The existing field is uneven, heavily worn, and often unplayable due to weather. These conditions limit practice time, home games, and player development and safety.
Primarily the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, with potential availability for PE classes, school events, and limited club soccer use on select weekends.
Although natural grass is often a first choice, the advancements made in astro turf make it an excellent choice for the new field. Astro turf offers:
Year-round usability
Durability under heavy use
Lower maintenance costs
A safer, more predictable playing surface
Engineered soccer specific turf with ShockPad
The project cost is estimated at $2.7 million and will be funded through private donations from families, alumni, community members, and local organizations.
District 86 is supportive of this project for a new soccer field. However, District 86 is not providing any funding and/or financing. Given the current near to midterm priorities of District 86, funding the new field through private donations will allow the new soccer field to be completed in a time frame that has the greatest impact on the players, resulting in a field that is playable for HCHS’s current and future needs. Once the necessary funding is obtained District 86 will oversee the completion of the new soccer field.
District 86 has a long-term plan for capital improvements. Near term priorities include those primarily related to buildings and associated infrastructure.
The Hinsdale Central - Centennial Field Committee (Committee), which consists of parents, coaches, former players, school representatives, and community members (working with District 86 leadership) is coordinating all aspects of fund raising, design, and selection of a sports construction firm.
District 86 will oversee the completion of the soccer field once funding is obtained.
The Committee has been working very closely with the District 86 administration, specifically the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, in every aspect of the project. District 86 administration has given the go ahead to raise funds and has agreed with the construction project and related construction firm.
Construction will start once the necessary funds have been raised.
It is estimated it will take 6 months to complete the project.
